Volunteer Culture - The Ask

As a graduate student @ Clemson University i started attending NewSpring Church.  One of the many reasons i continued to return was the volunteer culture that i observed.

THEY WERE EVERYWHERE:

  • They were in the roads directing traffic with a smile.
  • They were in the parking lot with umbrellas on rainy Sundays.
  • They were on the sidewalks greeting me in the cold & wind.
  • They were in the auditorium seating.
  • They were in the bathroom cleaning.
  • Im serious… I SAW THEM EVERYWHERE…

I’ve now been on staff for a little over 3 years & i’ve had some time to observe how that culture got started and continues to swell.  It all revolves around this statement: “When you show folks how they can make a difference, you’ll have no trouble attracting people to get involved.

For me it all got started with “The Ask“.

Perry was the 1st person to ask me if i’d come and check out a Fuse* service.  I did, and the rest is history.

The biggest obstacle for creating a volunteer culture is that most leaders are scared to go for “the ask”

Christian Leader:

— I challenge you to GO FOR “THE ASK” THIS WEEK.  What do you have to lose?

— I challenge you to create an expectation of yourself, your staff, & your volunteer team to go for “the ask”.

Start Today —

Start with 3 people –

Go for “THE ASK!”
