We are a new creature in that our spirit is quickened, but our flesh is not redeemed until the resurrection of the dead, and it is NOT a new creature...yet. If someone is disabled and is born again, does their disability go away? Our flesh with its sin nature isn't changed at all when we're saved. We do have the ability to overcome sin because our spirit, which NEVER sins and loves the things of God, is a new the new man. When we sin, we sin because we choose to do so, not because some little devil takes us over. At the same time, our flesh will always choose to sin. This is the war that wages in our members that Paul was talking about in Romans 7. As believers, we can and should strive to live holy lives. If we don't, of course, our sins won't ever condemn us when we die, though we will face chastisement in this life. God disciplines His children, and if we choose to live a wicked life, you can count on God's discipline.

It's important to keep this point in context, though. When we sin, we do love the sin more than God at that moment. But it's important to remember that we aren't saved by loving God or obeying Him, we're saved by believing the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are saved by our faith in Christ alone and our own struggle with sin (or lack thereof) is irrelevant as it relates to our salvation.

This is why the false teaching that the plan of salvation includes a requirement to "repent of all our sin" is so insidious. No one has ever repented of all his sin. We all continue to sin and we will until the resurrection when we are given our new glorified body. We are saved when we believe on Jesus Christ and put all of our hope and trust in Him, period. Yet well-meaning pastors and others regularly tell people to repent "of their sins" rather than telling them to repent of their lack of faith in Christ. It's an invitation to the lost to depend on their own good works...their own good life...their own life change, instead of believing that the Son of God died and rose again in FULL payment for their sins. We are saved 100% by what Christ did; 0% by what we do.

We have to know where we stand before we can even begin to consider such a question. Colossians 2 states:

6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

Verse 11 is key, teaching that we don't have the sin nature any more. It was removed by Christ himself. This agrees with the Romans 8 conclusions that the flesh is dead, but the Spirit keeps our spirit alive. If, then, since we don't have a sinful nature/flesh anymore in Christ, we are by default not sinners. This means that we must choose to sin since we are no longer bound by its power. The authority of death has been publicly mocked and taken by Christ and handed to the Saints of the Most High.

In regards to the fact that we have sinned since knowing salvation's first works: we will be tempted without ceasing until the tempter is locked up (see Revelation). As we are all aware, Adam and Eve sinned without having a sin nature. All they had to do was choose a new master and be deceived to think that they had to work for what they already possessed by nature: being like God.

We must not use the resurrection power of Christ dwelling in us to glorify satan by allowing him to deceive us. We must choose perfection because God is perfect (1 Peter 1:15-16), and because Christ made a way for it to be possible through the Cross.

Well there is of course our sin nature. None of us are perfect nor will be as long as we are here on earth. Sin is a part of who we are but it is not forced upon us. We make a choice to do it. Really the scriptures teach that we are a new creation, no longer a SLAVE to our sinful nature but a servant to righteousness when we accept Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:13 God always ensures there is a way out of temptation. We are responsible for our actions, we make the choice to give into sin.... or we do not look for the God created escape.... or doubt that He made one. We can not pass the blame we are responsible for our actions.

Saying that a person that sins does so because they love sin more then they love God may be harsh but I suppose you could boil it down to that.... atleast at that moment. We choose ourselves over God too often, you follow what you love.

Galatians 6:7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

-Physical death is in front of us all.... yes.... 'For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.'

So, basically we as humans can never love God more than our sin until ultimate Glorification is obtained in heaven?!! Because we all sin daily no matter how much we repent and pray and ask forgiveness and let God lead our lives there will always be some form of sin?!!

I respectfully disagree. Reading past Romans 7 into Romans 8, we find this in verse 9, " 9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.(NIV)(Romans 8:9-11)

Paul talks that sinful nature keeps our body dead therefore we are freed when the spirit comes and makes us alive. Any sin afterwards is our choice to resubmit ourselves. A choice I have made along with everyone. While we may not "love" sin in a broad stroke, we do indeed love the sin we commit at the particular time and place we are committing it or at least when we begin the action. I agree that the great miracle is that despite this choice, we make Christ is faithful in forgiving our sins.

Agree, We all sin because we all love that sin more than God. Romans says as followers of Christ we are freed from slavery to sin. Which means any further sin is our free choice that we could help but choose not to. It shouldn't call up guilt but responsibility.

Ha, to be the complete christian clique guy, here's a C.S. Lewis quote I think is quite relevant.
"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
I believe our deepest love (when we're a christian) is for God, and our deepest desire is to serve and please him. But we mix priorities and let surface desires get in the way sometimes. Also @adamlehman and @ypclayconry have the right idea.

'I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.' Romans 7:21-25 (NLT)

I also think it is the sin nature that is the problem. Paul is very candid about the inner conflict of Christians. One thing I had to learn in my walk is that I cannot measure my relationship with God by my Sin because He measures it by Christ's sacrifice. I pray every day that I grow in holiness.

Another thing; I was so very grateful for Jesus the day I was saved (4 years ago) because of all the sin He forgave— that was a huge miracle in my life. But now it feels that the bigger miracle is that He can keep me through my slip-ups and mistakes.

There is sin in my life, but now that I'm a Christian I don't love that sin, in fact I hate it because it takes away my greater desire; to serve my Father & enjoy the blessings of Holiness...
